TL;DR: Finished: Cradle (12 volumes), Mark of the Fool (10), Mother of Learning (4 arcs), The Perfect Run (3) and Mage Errant (7). Planned end: Dungeon Crawler Carl, "10 books total" per Matt Dinniman, with no book 9 date. Not confirmed despite a "Book 12 of 12" label: Unbound. Azarinth Healer, The Primal Hunter, He Who Fights with Monsters and the others are ongoing.

Covers of the last books of five finished series: Waybound, Mark of the Fool 10, Mother of Learning IV, The Perfect Run 3 and Mage Errant 7

Only five of the series we cover are completed LitRPG series with an official end: Cradle, Mark of the Fool, Mother of Learning, The Perfect Run and Mage Errant. The four with full audio add up to 493 hours 27 minutes, and the biggest, Mark of the Fool, is 206 of those hours. Dungeon Crawler Carl has a planned end at ten books. Everything else is still open. Below: the five with the author's or publisher's own words, the series that only look finished, and what comes out next.

Key Takeaways

  • Five completed LitRPG series in our data, each with a dated statement from the author, the publisher or a store listing.
  • One planned end: Dungeon Crawler Carl, ten books if the plan holds.
  • Unbound looks done but isn't confirmed: a "final battle" blurb, no finale statement.
  • Seven next books are dated for November and December 2026, so the "ongoing" list keeps moving.
  • Status changes fast: each line below carries its own check date.

Overview: what counts as completed here

We call a series completed only when an official source says so: the author's site or post, the publisher's page, or a store and serial listing that closes the count. "Book 6 of 6" on Amazon is not enough on its own, because Amazon only counts the books already listed. The Primal Hunter 16 page now reads "Book 16 of 17" because book 17 went up for pre-order.

The list covers the 28 series we track with a guide on this site (a few of those guides go live later this month). Our series status board shows the same split live, with the next dated book for each.

Desk note: Of those 28 series, 5 are marked complete in our data. The four with every main book on Audible add up to 29 audiobooks and 493 hours 27 minutes, about 21 days of listening if you never stopped.

Cradle. Will Wight's site gives the length as "12 volumes, complete". Amazon also numbers Threshold: Stories from Cradle as Cradle 13, but it is a short-story collection, not book 13. Travis Baldree reads all twelve volumes. Our Cradle reading order has the volumes and lengths.

Mark of the Fool. J.M. Clarke posted the book 10 ebook launch as "the final launch announcement for Mark of the Fool's e-books" and later wrote that "the final audiobook for MARK OF THE FOOL is on audible!" It is the longest finished run here, ten Travis Baldree audiobooks. Details: Mark of the Fool reading order.

Mother of Learning. The web serial is marked COMPLETED on Royal Road at 109 chapters, and it is still free there. The four audio arcs are read by Jack Voraces for Podium Audio. Our Mother of Learning audiobook guide covers the arcs.

The Perfect Run. Three proofs line up: Royal Road shows COMPLETED, Amazon labels book 3 "Book 3 of 3", and Audible's blurb calls it "The perfect conclusion to the Perfect Run saga!" At 54 hours 37 minutes it is the shortest complete listen on this list. See The Perfect Run reading order.

Mage Errant. Aethon lists the seven books under "The Complete Series", and Amazon calls it "Mage Errant (7 book series)". John Bierce's blog says a spinoff, The Young Warlocks, is "in the finishing stages". That is a new book in the same world, not book 8. On Audible, books 1 and 2 come only as a two-book Publisher's Pack. Our Mage Errant reading order explains the pack.

One End in Sight: Dungeon Crawler Carl

Eight books are out, and Penguin Random House labels the latest "Book 8 of 8". Matt Dinniman told Variety in February 2026: "I think 9 is the last book, but it'll be split into two books. So there's still going to be 10 books total." In the same answer he added: "this isn't set in stone." His news page gave no book 9 date when we checked. Our Dungeon Crawler Carl reading order tracks it.

Series That Look Finished but Aren't Confirmed

Unbound. Twelve books, and Amazon labels Ruin "Book 12 of 12". Ruin's blurb ends "The final battle is upon us. Ruin has come." That reads like an ending. But when we checked on October 14, Mountaindale's page for Ruin still said "Coming Soon", and neither the author nor the publisher had called it complete. We keep it as unconfirmed; the Unbound reading order has the 305 hours 35 minutes of audio.

Arcane Ascension and Beneath the Dragoneye Moons. Amazon shows "Book 6 of 6" and "Book 16 of 16". Neither series has a listed next book on Amazon or Audible, and we found no statement that either has ended. Treat both as paused, not finished.

12 Miles Below. Watch this one. A reader in the thread below wrote: "I really enjoyed 12 miles below and it is finished and wrapped up." It isn't. Amazon lists book 8, The Division Stone, as a Kindle pre-order for November 18 (checked October 12), labelled "Book 8 of 8".

Seven of those land before the end of 2026. Dated books also show up on our release calendar.

Ongoing with no date: He Who Fights with Monsters (still posting chapters on Royal Road in early October), The Ripple System (Portal Books: "Expected Early 2027"), Nightmare Realm Summoner (Amazon labels book 4 "Book 4 of 5", no book 5 date), Azarinth Healer, Iron Prince, The Completionist Chronicles, Noobtown, Heretical Fishing and Everybody Loves Large Chests.

Is Azarinth Healer Complete?

No. Book Seven came out on October 15, and on October 23 Portal Books still showed the series as "Series ongoing", with 7 books. Neither Portal nor Audible listed a book 8, and we found no author or publisher statement on how many books there will be. Our Azarinth Healer reading order gets the date when one appears.

Where Readers Split on Endings

An r/ProgressionFantasy thread from Oct 15 asked for series "with a great ending". The top comment (56 points) and another list with 26 points both named Mother of Learning, The Perfect Run and Mark of the Fool. u/PoiEagle, the top comment: "Mother of Learning, The Perfect Run, Cyber Dreams, Mark of the Fool. I enjoyed all of these and they all ended well if not great" (comment).

A reader, r/ProgressionFantasy, Oct 15, 2026 · Read it on Reddit

Not everyone agrees on the details. u/foolishorangutan on Mother of Learning: "Nah, Mother of Learning's ending wasn't really bad but I did feel it was the weakest part of the entire story." (comment). u/NefariousBrew answered the same complaint: "Really? I thought the ending was amazing, it was a really clever twist that had been building up the entire arc" (comment).

Cradle splits readers too. u/Orangeboy2 liked "the endings to Cradle, Mother of Learning, Calamitous Bob, the Perfect Run, and Mark of the Fool" (comment). u/Mino_18 did not: "Conversely, I thought the last stretch of cradle was really bad. Really ruined the characters for me." (comment).

Our take

Our pick: start Mark of the Fool if you want the biggest finished run. It is 10 books and 206 hours 55 minutes, all one narrator, and the author has called book 10 the final one. Short on time? The Perfect Run is done in 54 hours 37 minutes.

Skip it (for now) if: you want a series that will keep feeding you new books; pick one from the dated list instead.

What we don't know yet: whether Unbound's twelfth book is the official end. As of October 14, 2026, neither the author nor Mountaindale had said so.

How we checked this

Every status line comes from the source table of that series' guide on this site, where each row was read on the official page: the author's site or post, the publisher, Amazon, Audible or the Royal Road listing. The check date for each series is in the tables above (October 10 to 24, 2026). Audio totals are our own sums of Audible's lengths in our series data. Reader comments come from the r/ProgressionFantasy thread of October 15, 2026, read through the Arctic Shift archive on October 24. We have not read these series ourselves; the endings debate is the readers' words.
