Reading Order
The Wandering Inn Reading Order: Books, Volumes and Audio

The Wandering Inn reading order depends on how you read it. On audio there are 19 numbered books on Audible, with book 20 on pre-order for November 3, 2026. In the new ebooks and paperbacks, the first two books are each split into two parts. And the story is also published as a web serial on wanderinginn.com, organized in volumes rather than books. Below is the full book list with Audible lengths and narrators, how volumes map to books, and when the Fae and Fare paperback lands, as of October 10, 2026. No spoilers past the book 1 blurb.
TL;DR: Listeners: Audible books 1 to 19 in order, about 776 hours. Ebook and paperback readers: Book One Part One, No Killing Goblins, Fae and Fare, Immortal Games, then book 3 onward. The Fae and Fare paperback is out October 20, 2026 in the US and Canada. Web serial readers: start at Volume 1, Chapter 1, linked from the official site.
Key Takeaways
- 19 books out on audio: Audible lists 20 in the series; book 20, Memory's Flame, is due November 3, 2026.
- Two narrators: Andrea Parsneau for books 1 to 15, Erin Bennett from book 16 on.
- Very long: books 1 to 19 add up to 776 hours 4 minutes on Audible by our sum, about 40 hours 51 minutes per book.
- New split editions: books 1 and 2 are now four ebooks and paperbacks; the audiobooks are not split.
- Still being written: the official site listed the next web serial chapter for October 17, 2026 when we re-checked on October 12.

Step-by-Step: How to Read The Wandering Inn
1. Pick a format first: the audiobooks, the new ebooks and paperbacks, and the web serial do not line up one to one at the start, so decide before you buy.
2. On audio, play books 1 to 19 in number order: the book 1 audiobook covers both The Wandering Inn (Book 1, Part 1) and No Killing Goblins (Book 1, Part 2), per Audible, and book 2 covers both halves of Book Two.
3. In ebook or paperback, read the four parts, then book 3: The Wandering Inn: Book One, Part One, No Killing Goblins: Book One, Part Two, Fae and Fare: Book Two, Part One, Immortal Games: Book Two, Part Two, then Flowers of Esthelm (book 3) and on in number order.
4. On the web serial, start at Volume 1, Chapter 1: the official site's table of contents says "New here? Start with Book 1, Chapter 1", and the new-reader page links straight to it.
5. Add the spin-offs afterwards: The Singer of Terandria and The Last Tide are separate stories in the same world (see below).

Books vs. Volumes: How the Web Serial Maps to the Books
The official table of contents groups the web serial into volumes and prints which books each volume became:
- Volume 1: Book 1 (The Wandering Inn: Book One, Part One and No Killing Goblins: Book One, Part Two).
- Volume 2: Book 2 (Fae and Fare and Immortal Games).
- Volume 3: books 3 and 4. Volume 4: books 5 and 6. Volume 5: books 7 to 9.
- Volume 6: books 10 to 14. Volume 7: books 15 to 19.
- Volumes 8, 9 and 10: no book numbers printed beside them; the entries are web serial chapters and "Uncollected Chapters".
So if you finish book 19, the next part of the story is Volume 8 on the web serial. The table of contents did not say which volume book 20 covers, so we have not guessed. Patreon members get early access to web serial chapters, according to the official site; the Patreon page showed 17,205 members, starting at $1 a month, on October 10, 2026.
The Audiobooks
Andrea Parsneau narrates books 1 to 15 and Erin Bennett books 16 to 20, all published by Podium Audio. By our sum of Audible's lengths, books 1 to 19 run 776 hours 4 minutes: 599 hours 35 minutes from Parsneau and 176 hours 29 minutes from Bennett. That is almost twice the 397 hours 59 minutes of the 17 Defiance of the Fall audiobooks.
Book 1 on Audible is not the version first recorded. Audible's page says: "The Wandering Inn, Book 1, has been rewritten by pirateaba and re-recorded by Andrea Parsneau. This revised edition includes new scenes and perspectives." It sits at 4.4 stars from 14,528 ratings, the second-lowest average on the series page after book 16 (4.0), the first with Erin Bennett. The other 17 released books, 2 to 15 and 17 to 19, show 4.7 to 4.9.
One thing the official FAQ warns about: because the audiobooks stay whole while books 1 and 2 are split in print, "“WhisperSync” / “Read & Listen” no longer functions as the audiobooks are now separate listings to the ebooks."

New Paperbacks: Fae and Fare on October 20, 2026
The official FAQ explains the split plainly: "Physical books have physical limits." The ebooks of the four new parts came out first ("eBooks available worldwide 7th April"), and the paperbacks follow on these dates:
| New edition | US and Canada | UK and Europe |
|---|---|---|
| The Wandering Inn: Book One, Part One | August 11, 2026 | September 24, 2026 |
| No Killing Goblins: Book One, Part Two | September 22, 2026 | September 24, 2026 |
| Fae and Fare: Book Two, Part One | October 20, 2026 | November 5, 2026 |
| Immortal Games: Book Two, Part Two | November 10, 2026 | November 5, 2026 |
Two things to know before you buy Fae and Fare. First, the paperback named Fae and Fare is only the first half of Book Two; the Audible audiobook of the same name covers "Book 2: Parts 1 and 2". Second, the text changed: "pirateaba has made some edits to the story to better flow across four books in place of two." On Goodreads, the new book 1 has its own entry ("Published 2026", 4.31 from 1,234 ratings) separate from the older one (2018, 4.20 from 17.1k ratings), so check which edition you are rating or shelving. The official site's ebook link goes to HarperCollins. We list the paperback dates on our release calendar.
Spin-Offs and Other Formats
- The Singer of Terandria: a spin-off series with three books on the official Books page (Gravesong, Huntsong, Ghostsong). The site pitches it as a way to "listen to Cara O’Sullivan’s origin story".
- The Last Tide: a graphic novel, listed on the Books page and on the new-reader page.
- The webcomic: "a retelling of this journey in gorgeous illustrations", per the official site.
None of these are numbered parts of the main series, so they can wait until you know you like the world.
What Readers Say
Reader comments split on the same two points: the narration and the slow start. u/W_Rabbit, in a February 2026 r/litrpg thread about what to read after HWFWM and DCC: "If you listen to audiobooks, 'The Wandering Inn' books have the added benefit Andrea Parsneau narrating. She's the most impressive narrator I've heard short of Jeff Hays" (comment, February 2, 2026). A month later u/taaltos had the opposite reaction: "I hated The Wandering Inn's narration, I DNF'd...does the "hissing" and "clicking" stop at some point?" (comment, March 23, 2026).
On pacing, u/Atreties put it this way in October 2025: "Biggest recommendation would be The Wandering Inn, but its one of the biggest "it gets way better, trust" situations of any series out there." (comment, October 25, 2025).

Tips Before You Start
- Budget the time. Book 1 alone is 48 hours 7 minutes on Audible, longer than the first three Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks together (41 hours 53 minutes).
- Try the first chapter. The official new-reader page links to it, so you can test whether the voice of the story works for you before buying anything.
- Match editions. Paperback Fae and Fare is half of audiobook Fae and Fare; do not skip Immortal Games if you read in print.
- Expect a narrator change at book 16. If you love Parsneau's voice, books 1 to 15 are hers.
Our take
Based on the facts above, The Wandering Inn is the biggest commitment we have covered: 776 hours of audio for 19 books, almost twice Defiance of the Fall, and the serial keeps going past the books. Listeners who stay rate it highly (4.7 to 4.9 on Audible for most books), while reader comments warn about a slow start and split on the narration. That makes the format choice the real decision. If you are unsure, read the first chapters of the web serial before spending a credit on a 48-hour audiobook. If you prefer paper, the new split editions are the friendliest way in, with Fae and Fare due October 20, 2026; just remember they do not sync with the audiobooks.
How we checked this
On October 10, 2026 we opened the official site's new-reader page and FAQ, its Books page and its table of contents, Audible's series page and the product pages for books 1, 2, 16, 19 and 20 (and re-checked books 1, 19 and 20 the same day), the Goodreads search listing, and pirateaba's Patreon page. Amazon's pages did not load for us, so this guide has no Kindle dates or page counts. The Reddit comments were copied from thread data we saved that day. Totals and averages are our own arithmetic. A site-agent then compared every number in this article with our source table and re-opened the key pages, and the lines it flagged were fixed before publication.
