Hell Difficulty Tutorial Books in Order: All 8 and Book 9

8 min readBy LevelUpShelf EditorialLast reviewed

TL;DR: Read them by number, 1 to 8. That is 5,466 Kindle pages. On Audible only books 1 to 6 exist so far (138 hours 1 minute of Henry Kramer), so listeners are two books behind readers. Book 9 is a Kindle pre-order for November 18, 2026.

The Hell Difficulty Tutorial books by Cerim number eight so far, from Hell Difficulty Tutorial (May 14, 2024) to Hell Difficulty Tutorial 8 (August 12, 2026), with book 9 on Kindle pre-order for November 18, 2026. Aethon Books publishes the series, and Henry Kramer reads the six audiobooks that exist so far. Below are all eight books in order with Kindle dates and page counts, audio lengths, the growing gap before each audiobook, and what is known about book 9, checked on October 11, 2026 (audiobooks and book 9 rechecked October 24). Nothing past book 1's premise.

Key Takeaways

  • Eight books, one dated: Amazon labels each Kindle edition "Book N of 9"; book 9 auto-delivers November 18, 2026.
  • A fast schedule: a new Kindle book every 98 to 161 days since May 2024.
  • Audio is falling behind: book 1's audiobook came out the same day as the ebook; book 6's came 245 days later, and books 7 and 8 have none yet.
  • One narrator: Henry Kramer reads books 1 to 6 for Aethon Audio.
  • Book 1 rates lowest: 3.91 on Audible against 4.75 to 4.91 for books 2 to 6, as of October 11, 2026.

Overview

Hell Difficulty Tutorial is a LitRPG series by Cerim, published in ebook by Aethon Books and in audio by Aethon Audio. It also has a page on Royal Road, where an author note says "Book 1 is now available on Kindle and Audible!"

The premise, from book 1's Amazon description: "Nathaniel's bus ride was supposed to be just another boring commute. Wrong. Now, he, 23 fellow passengers, and a corgi named Biscuit, are stuck in a 'Hell Difficulty' Tutorial, battling monsters and leveling up to survive." Aethon's own tagline is shorter: "Where others see doom, he sees opportunity. Hell Difficulty? More like a chance to thrive."

It is a frequent recommendation. In the 4,433 Reddit comments we saved from 43 recommendation threads on October 10, 2026, "Hell Difficulty" turns up in 45 comments across 19 threads, often in lists next to The Primal Hunter and Defiance of the Fall.

Goodreads tells the same story as Audible. On its series page, book 1 has 4.12 from 5,899 ratings, and every later book scores higher, up to 4.75 for book 8. Later books are rated mostly by readers who chose to continue, so read that as "readers who stay are happy" rather than proof that the series improves; but the gap is wide enough that the first book is where most people decide.

Step-by-Step: How to Read Hell Difficulty Tutorial

1. Start with Hell Difficulty Tutorial (book 1): 618 pages on Kindle, or 18 hours 34 minutes on Audible, the shortest of the six audiobooks.

2. Read books 2 to 8 by number: every title is simply "Hell Difficulty Tutorial" plus its number, and Amazon labels each one "Book N of 9". Goodreads counts "9 primary works, 9 total works", so no side novels are numbered into the series.

3. Decide on format early: if you listen, you can go as far as book 6 today; books 7 and 8 have no English audiobook yet. If you want to keep going without waiting, switch to Kindle at book 7.

4. Mark November 18, 2026 for book 9: Amazon's pre-order page says it "will be auto-delivered to your Kindle on November 18, 2026". It is on our release calendar.

5. Keep track on the series page: the Hell Difficulty Tutorial series page lists every book with a checklist for the ones you have finished.

The Audiobooks: Henry Kramer

Henry Kramer narrates all six Hell Difficulty Tutorial audiobooks, and Audible lists Aethon Audio as the publisher on each. The six add up to 138 hours 1 minute by our sum, about 23 hours per book; book 4 is the longest at 25 hours 56 minutes.

The catch is timing. The audio gap has grown with every book:

  • Book 1: same day as the Kindle edition.
  • Book 2: 56 days later.
  • Books 3 to 5: 118, 140 and 166 days later.
  • Book 6: 245 days later (July 8, 2026).
  • Books 7 and 8: no English audiobook on Audible when we checked again on October 24, 2026; book 7 had been on Kindle for 192 days.

Audible's series page says "7 books in series" because it already has a slot for Hell Difficulty Tutorial 7, marked "Not Available on Audible.com" with no release date. Only books 1 to 6 can be bought. We will add the book 7 audiobook to the release calendar once Audible or Aethon gives it a date.

Listeners who have heard it rate the narration well. u/Hachdog, in a February 2026 r/litrpg thread from an audiobook listener: "Hell difficulty tutorial. The MC is a sociopath and it is what makes it original and there are funny moments. Also the narrator does a terrific job." (comment, February 19, 2026).

When Does Hell Difficulty Tutorial 9 Come Out?

November 18, 2026, on Kindle. As of October 11, 2026, and unchanged when we checked again on October 24:

  • Amazon: Hell Difficulty Tutorial 9: A LitRPG Adventure by Cerim is a pre-order that "will be auto-delivered to your Kindle on November 18, 2026".
  • Aethon Books: Cerim's author page lists books up to 8, and there was no product page for book 9 yet.
  • Audible: no book 9 audiobook (books 7 and 8 are not out in audio either).

Book 9 is set 98 days after book 8, in line with the rest of the run: the gaps between Kindle editions have been 105, 99, 98, 112, 126, 161, 119 and 98 days. Goodreads already lists book 9, with 14 early ratings and no publication date shown.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial on Royal Road

The story has a Royal Road page (fiction 64916), with 18,763 followers when we checked. It carries the Stub label, which Royal Road defines as: "The story is no longer available in its full format on Royal Road." The page listed 228 chapters, so you can read the start there, but the books are the complete version.

What Readers Say

Readers place it next to the big system-apocalypse series. u/Mr_M3Gusta_, in an April 2026 thread asking for something like HWFWM or Primal Hunter: "I'm also about to start listening to Hell Difficulty Tutorial since that's apparently popular with Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, and Apocalypse: Generic System" (comment, April 29, 2026). In the same thread, u/blacksalmon2189 answered: "Hell difficulty tutorial is for you I promise" (comment).

Others rank it just below their favorites. u/previouslyonimgur, in r/ProgressionFantasy: "My top tier of litrpg/ progression fantasy is Defiance of the fall Path of ascension Second tier Path of dragons Hell difficulty" (comment, May 16, 2026).

Tips Before You Start

  • Judge it after book 1, not during. Book 1 is the lowest-rated book on Audible and Goodreads, and the later books score clearly higher with readers who stayed.
  • Expect a hard-edged lead. One reader calls the main character "a sociopath" and says that is what makes it original.
  • Listeners, plan for a wait. Audio stops at book 6 for now, and book 6's audiobook came 245 days, about eight months, after the ebook.
  • Spoilers: later blurbs give away earlier events. Read only the blurb of the book you are about to start.

Our take

Based on the facts above, Hell Difficulty Tutorial is a strong pick for readers who want a long, fast-moving series: eight books in under two and a half years, a ninth dated for November 18, 2026, and later books that readers rate well above the first. It is a weaker pick for audio-only listeners right now, since the audiobooks stop at book 6 and have been arriving later each time. If you like Path of Ascension or Defiance of the Fall, the readers quoted above name it alongside both; read book 1 to the end before deciding.

How we checked this

On October 11, 2026 we opened the Amazon Kindle page for each of the nine books (date, print length, "Book N of 9", pre-order text), Aethon's product pages for books 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8 and Cerim's author page, the Audible product page for each of the six audiobooks (narrator, length, date, publisher, rating), an Audible search for the series, the Goodreads series page, and the Royal Road fiction page and knowledge base. Reader comments were copied from Reddit thread data saved on October 10, 2026, because Reddit blocks live reading from our machine. Day counts and totals are our own arithmetic. A site-agent then compared every number in this article with our source table before publication. On October 24, 2026 we read Audible's catalog records for books 1 to 7 again (book 7 is still a placeholder with no date), plus the Amazon pages for books 8 and 9, Aethon's book 7, book 9 and author pages and the Goodreads series page. Every date, length, page count and book count above still matched; only the ratings had moved slightly.
