Step-by-Step: How to Read Mage Tank
1. Start with book 1: Mage Tank, 736 pages on Aethon's page or 20 hours 37 minutes on Audible.
2. Read books 2 to 5 in number order: Aethon's series page lists books 1 to 5 with nothing in between, and Audible's series page has the same five.
3. Pre-order book 6 if you want it on day one: Amazon lists Mage Tank 6: A LitRPG Adventure for March 17, 2027, at $6.99.
4. Or read ahead on Royal Road: the author's description says "Currently posting chapters for book 6!"
The Audiobooks
Daniel Wisniewski narrates all five audiobooks on Audible, published by Aethon Audio. By our sum of Audible's lengths they run 106 hours 21 minutes, about 21 hours 16 minutes per book. Book 3 is the longest (23 hours 5 minutes) and book 2 the shortest (19 hours 27 minutes).
The audio usually comes out close to the ebook. Books 1 and 3 had same-day audio, book 2 followed by 7 days and book 5 by 20 days. Book 4 was the slow one: 84 days, from January 28 to April 22, 2026. Ratings rise across the run, from 4.58 for book 1 to 4.81 for book 5, though on fewer ratings (2,485 down to 741).
For listeners coming from Dungeon Crawler Carl, the narrator is the main draw in reader threads (see below). Our Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobook guide covers Jeff Hays's side of that comparison.

Mage Tank 6: What We Know
Here is what each source said on October 10, 2026:
- Amazon: a Kindle page for Mage Tank 6: A LitRPG Adventure, publisher Aethon, "Publication date March 17, 2027", priced at $6.99 for pre-order, labeled "Book 6 of 6". Amazon's author search shows the same line: "This title will be released on March 17, 2027."
- Goodreads: the series page counts "6 primary works" and lists book 6 as "expected publication 2027".
- Aethon: no book 6 page yet (the address returned a 404). Its series page still shows books 1 to 5 under a "The Complete Series" heading, which no longer matches the pre-order.
- Audible: no book 6 listing; the series page shows 5 books.
- Royal Road: "Currently posting chapters for book 6!"
March 17, 2027 would be 238 days after book 5's July 22, 2026 ebook, a longer gap than any between books 1 and 5. For those five books the audio came between the same day and 84 days after the ebook; for book 6, no audio date has been announced. You can track the ebook date on our release calendar.

Book 5 comes out near the end of July (date subject to shenanigans)… Currently posting chapters for book 6!" Book 5 did arrive on July 22, 2026.

What Readers Say
The humor and the narrator come up most. In a January 2026 r/litrpg thread asking for something like DCC and HWFWM, u/Phog_of_War wrote: "Mage Tank is pretty good and has made me lol quite a few times so far in Book 1." (comment, January 13, 2026). A month later, answering an audiobook listener, u/HRage19 was direct: "If you like Dungeon crawler Carl, listen to Mage Tank. Very similar narration style and quality." (comment, February 25, 2026).
And in a September 2026 thread about The Primal Hunter (see our Primal Hunter reading order), u/RedCoatSus, in a comment with 153 points, described listening to book 5: "I was just thinking about this earlier today actually as I was listening to Mage Tank 5. ... Daniel Wisniewski’s talent as a narrator lulls me into this semi hypnotized fugue state and I found myself enjoying listening to it." (comment, September 20, 2026).
Tips Before You Start
- It is a comedy first. Aethon sells it as "hilarious", and the reader comments above agree; if you want grim progression, this is not it.
- Book 4 page counts differ. Aethon says 756, Amazon 720; the story is the same book.
- Listeners can binge now. All five audiobooks are out, so there is no audio wait until book 6.
- Spoilers: threads about book 5 are recent (August 2026 audio); avoid them until you finish.
Our take
Based on the facts above, Mage Tank moves fast: five books in under 17 months, each audiobook close behind its ebook, and one narrator throughout. At about 106 hours of audio it is half of Mark of the Fool's 207 and about a quarter of Defiance of the Fall's 398, so you can catch up before book 6 arrives in March 2027. The Audible averages also rise as you go, from 4.58 for book 1 to 4.81 for book 5. If you came for Dungeon Crawler Carl's humor and audio, this is the pick both Aethon's blurb and the readers quoted above point you to; if you want a finished story, look elsewhere for now, because book 6 is already on the way.
How we checked this
On October 10, 2026 we opened Aethon's series page and the book pages for books 1 to 5 (and the missing book 6 page), Amazon's Kindle pages for books 1 to 6 and Amazon's author search, the Audible product page for each of the five audiobooks (re-checked the same day for narrator and publisher) and the Audible series page, the Goodreads series page, the Royal Road fiction page, and the LitRPG Radar book 6 page. The Reddit comments were copied from thread data we saved that day. Totals, averages and day counts are our own arithmetic. A site-agent then compared every number in this article with our source table and re-opened the key pages, and the lines it flagged were fixed before publication.
