Travis Baldree Audiobooks: Where to Start in LitRPG
Travis Baldree audiobooks in LitRPG: Cradle, The Primal Hunter, Mark of the Fool and Beware of Chicken, 43 books and 726 hours, plus his DCC guest parts.

Travis Baldree audiobooks make up a large share of the LitRPG and progression fantasy shelf: he is the only narrator of Cradle, The Primal Hunter, Mark of the Fool and Beware of Chicken, and a guest voice in two Dungeon Crawler Carl books. Across the four series he reads alone, that is 43 audiobooks and 726 hours 53 minutes by our sum of Audible's lengths, checked October 10, 2026.
TL;DR: Start with Cradle if you want a finished series in short books (8 to 16 hours each). Pick The Primal Hunter for the longest run (15 audiobooks, 298 hours) but expect a wait for book 16. Mark of the Fool is finished at 10 books. He does not narrate Dungeon Crawler Carl; he is a guest voice in books 6 and 7.
Key Takeaways
- 4 series where he is the only narrator: Cradle (13 audiobooks with Threshold), The Primal Hunter (15), Mark of the Fool (10), Beware of Chicken (5).
- 726 hours 53 minutes in total, or about a year at two hours a day.
- Two are finished: Cradle ("12 volumes, complete") and Mark of the Fool (the author called book 10's audio "the final audiobook").
- Not the DCC narrator: Jeff Hays reads all eight Dungeon Crawler Carl books; Baldree joins on books 6 and 7.
- His own LitRPG novel is listed for 2027: Four Bastards and a Baby.
Overview: who Travis Baldree is
Travis Baldree's own site introduces him with two words, author and narrator, and notes he is a member of SAG-AFTRA. As an author he is known for cozy fantasy: his site lists the Legends and Lattes graphic novel and a collection of short stories set in that world. As a narrator, Audible's search for his name returned 423 results on October 10, 2026. That figure counts every edition Audible files under his name, so treat it as a rough size, not a book count.
This guide covers the four LitRPG series we have checked book by book. He reads more than that: listeners in the threads we read also name Welcome to the Multiverse, Shadeslinger and The Beginning After the End as Baldree audiobooks. We have not yet checked those series title by title, so they are not in the table below.
In LitRPG and progression fantasy, listeners treat his name as a recommendation on its own. In an October 2025 r/ProgressionFantasy thread asking for audiobooks, u/Bleenfoo answered in one line: "Just search audible for Travis Baldree as narrator and be done" (comment, October 5, 2025).

Which Travis Baldree Audiobooks to Start With
The right first pick depends on whether you want an ending and how long a book you can take. Cradle is the short, finished option; The Primal Hunter is the long, ongoing one; Mark of the Fool sits between them and is finished too. Beware of Chicken is the lighter choice.
1. Cradle, for a finished series in short books. Will Wight's site gives the series length as "12 volumes, complete". Book 1, Unsouled, is 8 hours 52 minutes, and the 12 volumes run from 8 h 31 m (Soulsmith) to 16 h 13 m (Waybound). The story collection Threshold (8 h 35 m, January 7, 2025) comes after volume 12. Our Cradle series reading order has every volume.
2. The Primal Hunter, for the most hours. 15 audiobooks, 298 hours 14 minutes, about 20 hours each. The longest single Baldree audiobook in this list is The Primal Hunter 11 at 23 h 31 m. The catch is covered in the next section: the audio now trails the ebook by months. Book order and dates are in our Primal Hunter reading order.
3. Mark of the Fool, for a finished long series. 10 audiobooks, 206 hours 55 minutes, and the author announced book 10's audio as "the final audiobook for MARK OF THE FOOL". See our Mark of the Fool reading order for the full list.
4. Beware of Chicken, for something lighter. Five audiobooks, 78 hours 44 minutes, and the highest book 1 rating of the four on Audible (4.82). Podium lists book 6 for December 8, 2026 with Baldree as narrator again; our Beware of Chicken reading order explains the two dates floating around for that book.

Analysis: the wait for new Travis Baldree audiobooks
The one pattern that matters for planning is the delay between ebook and audiobook. In the two Aethon series he narrates, the audio used to arrive on the same day as the ebook and now arrives months later.
- The Primal Hunter: books 1 to 4 and book 8 came out on audio the same day as the ebook. Books 13, 14 and 15 followed 168, 189 and 147 days later. Book 16's ebook came out July 29, 2026; on October 10, 2026 Audible's search for it returned only books 1 to 15.
- Mark of the Fool: books 1 to 3 had same-day audio. Book 10's ebook came out July 30, 2025 and its audiobook March 18, 2026, 231 days later.
- Beware of Chicken has stayed close: four of five audiobooks came out the day the ebook did, and book 4 followed 28 days later.
Listeners connect the wait with how much he records. In a June 2026 r/ProgressionFantasy thread, u/Sea-Elderberry-2115 wrote, about another series he narrates: "They are making all of them into audio books, but since it’s Travis Baldree it takes a hot minute to get them. Dudes super busy." (comment, June 3, 2026). We have no publisher statement on the cause, so read that as one listener's view.

Travis Baldree Audiobooks Outside His Own Series
If you came here from Dungeon Crawler Carl, the short answer is that the voice of Carl is Jeff Hays, not Baldree. Baldree's DCC work is two guest parts, in books 6 and 7, which together run 55 hours 26 minutes with Hays leading. Our Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobook guide lists every guest voice by book.
Operation Bounce House is the one place the two share the billing: Audible lists both as narrators, and its Audible page links it to no series.
Next is a LitRPG book he wrote. His site lists Four Bastards and a Baby as "COMING SOON - 2027" and describes it this way: "In a total departure from cozy fantasy, Four Bastards and a Baby is a magic-filled litRPG adventure novel in a dangerous new world". Audible already has a page for the audiobook, dated August 10, 2027, from Macmillan Audio. It lists no narrator yet, so whether he reads it himself is not known.

What Listeners Say
The comments we found about him are short and mostly the same: try anything he reads. u/omaharock put it this way in June 2026: "Travis Baldree narrates a ton of good ones, so I recommend checking out all of those because his performances are always great." (comment, June 3, 2026).
He also comes up as the alternative to full-cast productions. In an r/litrpg thread asking what could beat Dungeon Crawler Carl on audio, u/FioraXena wrote: "Firstly, if you're looking for something that's NOT Soundbooth, then I'd honestly suggest something narrated by Travis Baldree. Mark of the Fool is way up there, for me, and This Trilogy Is Broken." (comment, December 30, 2025).

Our take
Based on the facts above, the four series he narrates alone are an easy way to fill a year of listening with one voice: 43 audiobooks, about 727 hours. The choice between them is mostly about endings and waiting. Cradle and Mark of the Fool are finished, so nothing is held back. The Primal Hunter is the biggest, but its audio now runs about five to six months behind the ebook, and book 16 had no Audible listing when we checked. If you are coming from Dungeon Crawler Carl for the voice of Carl, that is Jeff Hays; Operation Bounce House is where you get the two of them together.
How we checked this
On October 10, 2026 we ran Audible's narrator search for Travis Baldree, opened his site's home and Books pages, and read the Audible structured data (narrator, length, date, publisher, rating) for Four Bastards and a Baby, Operation Bounce House and Threshold. Every other length, date and rating comes from the source tables of our reading-order and audiobook guides for these series, checked the same day from Audible, Aethon, Podium, Amazon, Will Wight's site and the authors' Royal Road posts. Totals and day counts are our own arithmetic. Reddit quotes were copied from thread data saved that day. A site-agent then compared every number with our source table before publication.
