An isekai is a story where someone dies or is pulled into another world, and the word is now used across LitRPG for that setup. Royal Road files the same idea under Portal Fantasy / Isekai; Unbound, for one, is tagged "LitRPG and Portal Fantasy / Isekai".

The setups vary a lot. The Wandering Inn follows "a young woman mysteriously transported to a world with unknown rules". Mage Tank is an isekai LitRPG, and its Audible blurb promises "A hilarious new Isekai LitRPG adventure". Bog Standard Isekai makes a joke of the label in its own name: it is an isekai that calls itself standard. Dungeon Life's full Amazon title for book 1 is "Dungeon Life: An Isekai LitRPG", and its hero dies and comes back as the dungeon itself.

What they share is the fresh start: a hero who has to learn a new world's rules from zero, which gives the reader a guide to the system at the same pace. Each series below is tagged from one of our guides, with the quote under its name.
